### **Discover Vianden, its cultural heritage and beautiful natural surroundings**

The medieval town of Vianden lies at the foot of the restored castle in the midst of the beautiful Ardennes countryside, in the unspoilt natural surroundings of the Our Valley. This tourist destination has been making history for more than a hundred years, thanks to the stay of the French novelist Victor Hugo in 1870. Thousands of tourists explore the narrow streets, the old curtain wall with its fortified towers and the Gothic churches every year.

## Hiking- and cycling trail "Ourdall Promenade"

			
			Walk along the [**Our promenade**](https://www.visit-eislek.lu/en/fiche/walking/trail-ourdall-promenade)from the campsite to the **[town of Vianden](http://vianden.lu/)**, where you can take [**Luxembourg's only chairlift**](https://www.visit-vianden.lu/en/culture-leisure/chairlift)over 200 metres from the valley up to the summit to view the town from above.



## Vianden Castle

			
			[**Vianden’s famous castle**](https://castle-vianden.lu/gb/) is also worth a visit. It was built between the 11th and 14th centuries on the foundations of a Roman fort and a Carolingian refuge. The palace is one of the largest and most beautiful feudal residences of the Romanesque and Gothic periods in Europe. After the castle became state property in 1977, it was restored to its former glory and is now one of the most important architectural monuments in Europe.
